The Importance Of Uniform Plant Spacing

Despite all the worries about obtaining the proverbial ‘picket-fence’ plant spacing for corn, the yield losses from non-uniform spacing are almost trivial in comparison to losses from erratic timing of emergence. Proper planter setup and adjustment are needed to create uniform timing of emergence.

However, uniform plant spacing is important because:

• plants need enough space to properly develop

• overcrowding can lead to stunted crops and lower quality crops

• sufficient space ensures that plants will get enough sunlight, water, and fertilizer

• optimal spacing can help prevent the spread of pests and diseases from one plant to another

In no till farming, nothing is more maddening than “dink plants,” those little plants that grow slowly and/or never reach the maturity of the other plants. Each and every dink plant represents lost income.

At Exapta, we have reinvented the parts, add-ons, attachments, and after-market equipment that help ensure uniform plant spacing.

Our flexible Ninja seed bounce flaps (tabs) close the triangular gap left by most conventional flaps, thereby ensuring more seeds stay in the furrow.

Along with the products listed above, we’ve more than 100 other parts and equipment designed to make no till farming easier and more profitable!.
